Knoydart Wild Camping Journey 🏕️✨

📆 24th April - 27th April 2026

📍Mallaig, Knoydart, Scottish Highlands

💵 £350.00 ppn (£100.00 non-refundable deposit payable upon booking)

Join Sacred Mountain Guiding on this guided 3-night wild camping journey through the ‘Rough Bounds of Knoydart’ ~ Britain’s last wilderness… We will hike 33 miles in total from Glenfinnan through wild and remote country to Inverie located on the remote Knoydart peninsula which can only be accessed on foot or by boat! We will spend 2 nights wild camping and 1 night will be spent at Inverie’s beachside campsite. There will also be the opportunity to stay in a bothy during our journey.

From Glenfinnan we will follow Heather’s beloved Cape Wrath Trail for some time, passing through some of Scotland’s most rugged, wild and remote glens and mountain passes before eventually reaching our end destination - the tiny hamlet of Inverie which is so remote that it is not connected to the UK road network! On our final evening, we will celebrate our journey with a group meal at Britain’s most remote pub - the Old Forge (meal not included in the cost)! We will return to Mallaig at the end of our adventure using the passenger ferry from Inverie!

We will meet at 09.00am for a gear check and to discuss the expedition and weather forecast. Mallaig has a train station, parking, amenities and facilities. We will set off on our walk up from Glenfinnan, following a section of the Cape Wrath Trail. Initially passing the famous Glenfinnan Monument, we will then head into more remote, lonely and wild country via Glen Final and Beach a’ Chaorainn (471m) before eventually dropping down into Glen Pean where we’ll set camp for the evening.

Distance 18.5 km (11.5 miles) with 630m of ascent.

Day 2 - Saturday

Continuing on our section of the Cape Wrath Trail via Glen Dessarry we will head into more remote, rugged and wild terrain, over the Tolkienesque mountain pass of Bealach an Lagain Duibh, before dropping down passed the small lakes of Lochan a’ Mhaim to reach Sourlies Bothy at the head of the stunning Loch Nevis which is a sea loch, where we’ll camp for the night.

Distance 19 km (12 miles) with 550m of ascent.

 Day 3 - Sunday

We will enjoy breakfast at the bothy before breaking down camp and heading off for the final leg of our hike to Inverie and Britain’s most remote mainland pub. Leaving Loch Nevis, we will climb the mountain pass between Sgurr Sgeithe and Meall Bhasiter, before dropping steadily down through Gleann Meadail to reach the small hamlet of Inverie on the coast and journey’s end at Inverie’s Campsite. There is a well stocked shop here to enable you to resupply. We will then celebrate our journey with a hearty meal at the Old Forge Pub! (Meal not included)
