Join Sacred Mountain Guiding on a walking weekend in the magical & otherwordly Assynt in the Scottish Highlands. Over the 3 day weekend we will hike Suilven, Quinag and Ben More & Conival.

The following extract from A Man in Assynt by Norman MacCaig sums up very well our feelings about this beautifully vast, dramatic and special landscape -

"Who owns this landscape? Has owning anything to do with love? For it and I have a love-affair, so nearly human we even have quarrels.

When I intrude too confidently it rebuffs me with a wind like a hand or puts in my way a quaking bog or loch where no loch should be.

Or I turn stonily away, refusing to notice the rouged rocks, the mascara under a dripping ledge, even the tossed, the stony limbs waiting.

I can’t pretend it gets sick for me in my absence, though I get sick for it. Yet I love it with special gratitude, since it sends me no letters, is never jealous and, expecting nothing from me, gets nothing but cigarette packets and footprints."

Please note that transport and accommodation are not included, we are simply offering the 3 walks over the 3 days. You can also chose to book the hikes individually, if you prefer not to attend the full weekend ~ the full weekend rate is offered at a slightly reduced rate. There is plenty of accommodation in the area - please see below.

Itinerary 📅

Friday - Suilven

Today we will hike to the majestic summit of Suilven. This iconic peak, whilst only 731m heigh, is one of Scotland’s best known mountains thanks to it’s distinct shape! Lying in a beautifully wild and remote area in the west of Sutherland, the sacred mountain rises from a wilderness landscape of moorland, bogs and lochans...

Our journey is an out and back route of 12.5 miles (20km) and with an ascent of 947m.

Saturday - Quinag

Quinag is a majestic mountain complex with three summits, all attaining Corbett status. The ascent of all three is said to be one of the finest and most varied hillwalks in Scotland, with fine peaks, dramatic ridges and stunning panoramic views...

The hike is 8.75 miles (14km) with 1130m of ascent.

Sunday - Ben More & Conival

Assynt is a wonderfully majestic and rugged area in the far flung north-west of Scotland, in which Ben More Assynt and Conival are the highest mountains and the only two Munros in Assynt. The two rocky summits are connected by a wonderful ridgeline that traverses the rough quartzite covered crests and summits.

The hike is 10.75 miles (17.25km) with 1077m of ascent

🚅Getting There & Accommodation

Transport to the events are not included, nor is accommodation. Assynt is so far north that we would probably recommend a car for our events in Assynt as there is very little in terms of public transport to the start of our events. Sacred Mountain Guiding can offer some help in terms of lifts from local accommodation for those that are on public transport, however! Please contact us to make an arrangement in this respect.

There are plenty of accommodation options including Inchnadamph Hostel, Clachtoll Beach Campsite and various hotels & AirBNBs in the area. Let us know if you need any help or recommendations.
